GCSE Maths: Deep Dive into AO3 Questions

This free online event, delivered by our credible specialists Christian Seager and Mel Muldowney from JustMaths, supports teachers delivering Pearson Edexcel GCSE Maths. The training covers AO3 questions and how you can support students with these types of questions.
You will:
• be shown how you can use performance data and past exam questions to identify your school/classes strengths and weaknesses for AO3 questions
• look at strategies that may be undertaken based on this data
• be shown teaching ideas that Chris and Mel use in the classroom to help make improvements with AO3 questions.
Please note: A recording of the event will be accessible exclusively to attendees within three days following the event. Subsequently, the recording will be added to the past training content area of the qualification website, secured behind a padlock, later in the term.
This event counts as 1 hour of CPD. You will receive a certificate via email after the event.
About the trainers
Christian Seager is a passionate and experienced mathematics educator, head of Maths at Most Improved Secondary in England and co-founder of JustMaths, a platform dedicated to supporting GCSE Maths teaching and learning. Christian played a pivotal role in transforming a school from National Challenge status to being recognised as one of the “Top 100 non-selective state schools in England.” He later co-led a team that won the TES Maths Team of the Year award in 2016, a testament to his innovative and impactful teaching strategies. Christian continues to inspire maths teachers across the UK through JustMaths, combining classroom insight with practical resources that truly make a difference.
Mel Muldowney is a passionate and award-winning secondary maths teacher, co-founder of JustMaths, and a prolific blogger known for her candid and inspiring reflections on teaching. After changing careers to enter education, Mel developed a strong commitment to working in schools facing challenging circumstances. Her leadership and innovative approach helped transform one such school into the “Most Improved School” in England, and she later co-led a team that won the TES Maths Team of the Year award. She is widely respected for her practical strategies in preparing students for the demands of the GCSE Maths curriculum. Her work both in the classroom and through JustMaths, has had a lasting impact on maths education in the UK. She regularly shares insights on lesson planning, behaviour management, and curriculum design, and has been featured on the Mr Barton Maths Podcast for her contributions to the field.
