Pearson International GCSE English as a Second Language, Practical Approaches to Teaching Speaking

This online practical course explores effective ways to develop students’ speaking skills for the International GCSE English as a Second Language exam. Teachers will experience a range of ready to use activities for role play, topic talk, picture tasks, and phonics, all aligned to exam requirements and the mark scheme. The session focuses on engaging, inclusive strategies that build confidence, fluency, and accuracy, with ideas teachers can apply immediately in the classroom.
By the end of this session, teachers will be able to:
•Use practical speaking activities for role play, topic talk, picture tasks, and phonics in the ESL classroom.
•Align speaking practice with exam requirements, including key candidate guidance and the mark scheme.
•Support students’ fluency, accuracy, and confidence through engaging, inclusive speaking strategies.
